Asian Pacific Americans
vote in 2006 election!
Asian Pacific Americans were a force in the November 2006 Michigan election. We should be proud of the voter registration and education efforts that had never been seen before in the community here in Michigan! There were phone banks, visits to houses of worship, a mailing to 11,000 APAs in Oakland and Wayne, a voting party with elected officials, and many educational forums about Proposal 2! AALDEF’s exit poll shows that around three-quarters of Asian Pacific American voters in Michigan voted “No” on Proposal 2; click here for more information. Asian Village to open in

American Day!
In 2005, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, cosponsored a successful resolution to “recognize contributions of Korean Americans to the United States and to encourage the celebration of Korean American Day on January 13.” The day celebrates contributions that Korean Americans have made in the economy, education, science, architecture, medicine, athletics, religion and the arts. The day was selected because on Jan. 13, 1903, more than a hundred pioneer immigrants arrived in Hawaii from Korea. AT&T
