Greetings!

Warm wishes to all this cold winter holiday season. CAPA hopes that you will enjoy these days of festivities and celebrations safely and within your tradition. As CAPA enters our 8th year, our support and love continues to grow for our members and their families. Please hug the ones you love tight and make your homes merry with joy.

President Katherine Lee (2005-2006) has a special message about CAPA’s accomplishments for the year, at her end of a productive term. Thank you, Katherine, for your tremendous leadership for the community!

CAPA thanks outgoing board and welcomes
2007-2008 board!
It is the end of the term for many board members and we thank them for their hard work and dedication! New board members are excited to start their terms in January 2007!
Click here for the list of CAPA board members for 2007-2008.

During the holiday season, please remember to give generously to those in our community that need our support.

In recent months, there have been many instances of hate and brutality directed at Asian Pacific Americans in Michigan, and a devastating typhoon in the Philippines. The families of Chon Buri Xiong (Warren), Hai Vo (Grand Rapids), and Masud Uzzman (Detroit) need our help, as do those in Bicol, Philippines.

Please click here for more information about how to make your contribution.

Asian Pacific Americans vote in 2006 election!
Asian Pacific Americans were a force in the November 2006 Michigan election. We should be proud of the voter registration and education efforts that had never been seen before in the community here in Michigan! There were phone banks, visits to houses of worship, a mailing to 11,000 APAs in Oakland and Wayne, a voting party with elected officials, and many educational forums about Proposal 2! AALDEF’s exit poll shows that around three-quarters of Asian Pacific American voters in Michigan voted “No” on Proposal 2; click here for more information.

Healthy Asian Americans Project’s new directions!

Jan. 13 is Korean American Day!
In 2005, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, cosponsored a successful resolution to “recognize contributions of Korean Americans to the United States and to encourage the celebration of Korean American Day on January 13.” The day celebrates contributions that Korean Americans have made in the economy, education, science, architecture, medicine, athletics, religion and the arts. The day was selected because on Jan. 13, 1903, more than a hundred pioneer immigrants arrived in Hawaii from Korea.
