CAPA’s Asian Food Tasting Festival
CAPA’s first Asian Food Tasting Festival was a huge success. On July 22, 2006 CAPA members and families enjoyed food from eight Asian countries and Executive Chef David Koshizawa from Asian Village did a food demonstration of a Japanese dish. In addition to filling out stomachs with delicious food, we also learned how to break dance and gained 19 new CAPA members!

Health Screening for Healthy Asian Americans

On September 10, 2006, CAPA supported and volunteered at the 6th Annual Healthy Asian American Project Health event sponsored by the University of Michigan School of Nursing.

The event was held at the Korean American Cultural Center of Michigan and drew over 150 participants who received free health screening for Hepatitis B, bone density test, cholesterol test, blood pressure check and other general health screenings.

We thank the following CAPA volunteers. Sook Wilkinson, Ph.D. provided her expertise as a professional Psychologist at the event. Willie DeChavez had a booth displaying information about CAPA. Jamie Hsu, Ph.D., Neerja Banka, Ph.D., Amy Risvold and FeSan Agustin were also there helping out at the event.

Community Playroom for Special Needs Children Project
CAPA and the Association of Chinese Americans are working together to set up a Community Playroom for Children with developmental challenges in the Chinese Community Center.

We conducted a Special Needs Children Playroom Project Survey from June 1 - July 15, 2006. The purpose of the survey was to understand how valuable this project can be to the community and to gauge other consideration from parents of Special Needs Children. Please click for survey results and progress update.

Currently we are doing a cost analysis of equipments and operating cost and pursuing funding opportunities to make it a reality.

Please continue to support us. If you would like to be a volunteer in this project or have any questions, suggestions, or ideas to share with us, please email Cheng Murray-Khoo at cheng@capa-mi.org.
