Greetings! May is the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. CAPA, as an organization, was born 5 years ago to recognize and celebrate this Heritage Month. We have so much to be thankful for and to celebrate. Today, we have Asian Pacific Americans as leaders in government, public service, business, science, arts, athletics, education, law, and many other areas. I invite you to take part in the celebration through many fun and wonderful events listed in this e-newsletter. Warmly, |

The Fifth "Splendor of the East", the only multi-media and multi-cultural Asian show in town, is brought to you this year to celebrate the Unity, Peace, and Love. In the aftermath of December 26, 2004 Tsunami disaster in Asia, people around the world have come together as a big family in supporting the ongoing relief efforts in the devastated nations. This show is to celebrate that Unity and the Waves of Love you all have given. May 14, 2005 (Saturday) The story of Unity, Peace, and Love tells how much people all over the world care about each other in times of disaster like the Tsunami. We are proud and thankful to live in a country whose people have the most generous hearts. Program highlights: The entire audience are invited to participate in the finale of the show. 9. Guest Voice: Jen Hilzinger, "What CAPA is for Us" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why CAPA? - Why We Are Here
The way we (my husband, Glen, and I) have put together our thoughts on international adoptive parenting has changed over the last 9 years that we have been parents. We look at our task as parents having distinct layers. The first and foundational layer is regular parenting; good discipline, structure, love, routine, predictability, patience, good mental heath of the parent -- all of the things that make for a good parent, any parent. Without that, it is really hard to see and properly address the other layers, it all gets 'mushed up' (high level psychological word). The next layer is adoption related. Realizing that adoption involves loss. For our children to be in our family means that first they had to lose something. Many people minimize this, but they should not. Allowing your child to openly grieve is one of the finest gifts adoptive parents can offer...
