Welcome to the CAPA e-News! In this day and age, staying in touch with family and friends can be a challenge. We're hoping that the e-News can do just that -- stay in touch with YOU.

CAPA brings together people of Asian descent and others who are interested in learning more about Asian Americans, their culture and heritage. CAPA is also commited to promote well-being of Asian Americans. I'd like to extend a personal invitation to you to join us at our next meeting. 1. Simply the Best -- Register Now!

2. CAPA Reaches Out to Tsunami Victims
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please let us know immediately of anyone personally affected by this most serious tragedy.

We, the people behind CAPA and our affliated organizations are moved to help these people begin the enormous task of rebuilding their lives. CAPA has launched a coalition fundraising campaign to begin to do what we can to help this devistated region. You and your organization are most welcome to do what you can and partner with us.

CAPA's Coalition Humanitarian Committee currently consists of representatives from these organizations, just to name a few; ACCESS, American Jewish Committee, APACC, KACMD, Nadanta, ASHA, MI Korean Weekly, Metro Parent Magazine, FILAMCCO and MetaDynamics.

We thank the Korean American Cultural Center for hosting our meetings.

3. Winter Clothing Drive Continues

4. CAPA Helps to Celebrate MLK Jr's Birthday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katherine Lee, CAPA President and Willie Dechavez, CAPA Advisory Board member were interviewed by the Martin Luther King Jr Task Force for a film shown at the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Gala in Southfield on Saturday, January 15th. Footage of 2004 Splendor Of the East was shown. Katherine, Willie and other CAPA members were in attendance at the first annual gala.

CAPA is proud to share in the celebration of this most important man's life and legacy.


5. Corp! Magazine Recognizes Contributions Made by Asian American Community
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Corp!, Michigan's largest business magazine, in the Winter 2005 issue, featured 37 Asian Americans from diverse leadership in an article titled, "Special Report: Michigan's Asian Pacific Americans: A Dynamic Part of Our National Mosaic".

A) Dr. Sook Wilkinson and the Korean Community of Metro Detroit cordinally invite all Asian Adoptive Families to the Third Annual Korean Tok Guk Party.

By popular demand, the Tok Guk Party is back! Be a part of the Lunar New Year celebration with lunch, Saebay Ceremony, and games.

Saebay (Korean bowing) Ceremony is for the children to show respect to their parents and grandparents, and wish them good health and happiness in the new year. In turn, the parents and grandparents prepare good luck cash to give to their youngsters to wish them a prosperous year. Experience and teach your children the age-old Korean value of honoring their parents and grandparents.

B) 7th Annual Legacy Associates Foundation Scholarship Dinner

The 7th Annual Legacy Associates Foundation Scholarship Dinner will be held Saturday March 26, 2005 at the Museum of African-American History in Detroit, Michigan.

Come out and learn more about the work of Legacy in the community, the future of our organization, hear directly from youth that Legacy has positively effected, enjoy a captivating speech by Dr. Na'im Akbar and much more!

C) 2005 Multicultural Immersion Program

New Detroit's Multicultural Immersion Program is accepting applications for 2005.

Here is a list of the tentative session dates: 3/17, 4/14, 5/19, 8/18, 9/22, 10/15 and 11/10. Application deadline: February 4, 2005.
